"At last! At last!" Dr. Eggman cackled. "I finally have the perfect invention to rid myself of that pesky hedgehog forever!"
"What is it Doctor?" asked one of his robotic minions, "Some type of slow-motion ray?'
"No no no. Nothing so simple. Though I will save that idea in the remote chance that this fails… Anyways, no. This is my creation!"
The doctor holds out what appears to be a small robotic insect.
"Is that it? A bug?"
"Don't be fooled by it's unintimidating appearance. This Bio-sect will locate and then collect a sample of the first DNA source it comes across on it's way to Sonic's house. Then, as it flies, it will splice the sample into a special virus. This virus will corrupt any host cell and mutate the cell's DNA into a copy of its own core DNA, which was spliced in earlier. Then once it tracks down Sonic, it will explode with enough force to infect everything in a wide radius within seconds. Even Sonic's speed won't be able to outrun it, and if I'm lucky, I may even get a few of his pesky friends too!"
"But Doctor! What if the only DNA it comes across is Sonic himself?"
"Ha! I even thought of that! I found a sample of Sonic's fur in the wreakage of my previous plan, and set it so the Bio-sect will exclude his DNA from the collection stage as well as DNA from plants or insects."
"Wow Doctor! You're a genius!"
"Heh heh, yes… I know. Now fly Bio-sect, and rid me of that hedgehog forever!"

Sonic in Sonic X is overpowered and used far more than the other characters, leaving them behind. In the games, Sonic is of average strength compared to the others, and has not gone an adventure without help for a LONG time, and is almost never seen without one of his friends. He's less of a hero in Sonic X, and more of a thrill seeker
In Sonic X, Tails has all of the childish traits that make him an interesting character stripped away, in favor of making him just the guy who builds stuff and comes up with plans (Which he's supposed to be REALLY bad at, by the way). His friendship with Sonic is ruined, he loses all usefulness that doesn't have to do with machines, etc.
Not just a bit exaggerated - She took out her hammer at every opportunity and got angry often. In the games, she's fairly nice and generally only uses her hammer in self-defense.
They have more abilities than that. Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream all have the abilities Sonic uses in Sonic X. The spin attack, the super speed, the homing attack... They all use those in the games. Not so in Sonic X.
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog at least got Sonic and Tails' friendship right; and actually gave Sonic a weakness, which is important for a character to have, unlike Sonic X.
He's very much a hero in Sonic X.
Tails was never childish. The only childish thing about him was his adoration of Sonic that's it. That's still there in Sonic X. Tails was never bad at plans. Sonic and Tails friendship is the exact same as it is in the games.

They did that because that is redundant. Sonic Heroes was stupid because of all the copy cat characters that didn't add anything to the game. Sonic Team seems to want to forget that aspect of Heroes because that's the only time that the characters aren't in the least fun.
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog did not get their friendship right. AOSTH has Tails being a clingy baby who Sonic just adopts as his younger brother. Sonic does have a weakness. Water remember?
